Domain III: LEADERSHIP Action Strategies for Obtaining a 3: 1. Read the school improvement (PL 221) plan. 2. Join a committee. 3. Tutor students who need remediation. This may include one-on-one instruction, computer- driven instruction, online groups, etc. Additional Strategies for Obtaining a 4: 4. Brainstorm ways to support the school's mission and goals. Select one and write a personal contribution goal. (For example, "To support the school's goal of improving student writing, I will organize a young author's club.") 5. Create and carry out a plan for making the personal contribution goal a reality. 6. Develop a comprehensive tutoring plan. Initiate or join a Professional Learning Community. Set clear goals and plan of action for the school year. Meet regularly to accomplish goals. 5. Mentor a new teacher, help a teacher new to the school, assist a struggling teacher, work with a pre- service teacher, or host a student teacher. Set up groups for each grade level and/or department, as well as a group for the entire teaching staff. Share newly learned knowledge and practices, as well as helpful resources (books, websites, professional development opportunities, etc.) with pertinent groups via Offer to lead professional development to staff in an area of professional expertise. Seek out special services for students in need. These may include but are not limited to tutoring, counseling, special education services, hearing and vision screening, and high ability programs. Make phone calls, send e- mails, and, if necessary, write formal letters. 4. Collaborate with colleagues to implement programs and policies to help all students in the school succeed. Select one or more that will make a considerable positive impact on student learning; implement. 2. Respond promptly to parent contacts and contact parent when an academic, social, or emotional problem is detected. Work together to address the problem. Log date, name of parent, reason for contact, details of resolution, and necessary action. 3. Participate in mandatory parent outreach, such as back-to-school night, parent-teacher conferences, etc. Additional Strategies for Obtaining a 4: 4. Initiate a variety of parent outreach activities to engage parents in their children's learning. 5. Prepare materials (handouts, digital presentations, etc.) to maximize the positive impact of parent outreach activities, such as back-to-school night. 6. Create a class website or newsletter. Strategies for Obtaining a 3: 1. Document parent engagement activities. 2. File parent contact log(s). 3. Log participation in mandatory parent outreach activities. Level 4 - Teacher strives to form relationships in which parents are given ample opportunity to participate in student learning and is available to address concerns in a timely and positive manner, when necessary, outside of required outreach events.
