Domain III: LEADERSHIP Teachers develop and sustain the intense energy and leadership within their school community to ensure the achievement of all students. Domain III: LEADERSHIP Action Strategies for Obtaining a 3: 1. Read the school improvement (PL 221) plan. 2. Join a committee. 3. Tutor students who need remediation. This may include one-on-one instruction, computer- driven instruction, online groups, etc. Additional Strategies for Obtaining a 4: 4. Brainstorm ways to support the school's mission and goals. Select one and write a personal contribution goal. (For example, "To support the school's goal of improving student writing, I will organize a young author's club.") 5. Create and carry out a plan for making the personal contribution goal a reality. 6. Develop a comprehensive tutoring plan. Documentation List participation in professional development on this topic, including books and articles read. Strategies for Obtaining a 3: 1. File copy of school improvement goals. 2. File activities completed for committee and agendas/minutes of meetings attended. 3. Record which students received tutoring, when tutoring was held. Copy and file any notes sent to parents regarding tutoring. Additional Strategies for Obtaining a 4: 4. Type personal contribution goal and plan for achieving goal; file. 5. Keep thorough records of activities related to personal contribution goal. Include student growth data resulting from initiative, if possible. 6. Create a flyer detailing tutoring plan; file. Collect data demonstrating student growth as a result of tutoring. Domain 3: LeadershipDomain 3: Leadership‎ > ‎ Competency 3.1 Contribute to School Culture Levels 3 & 4 - Teacher c ontributes ideas and expertise to further the schools' mission and initiatives. Teacher dedicates time efficiently, when needed, to helping students and peers outside of class. Level 4 - Teacher may seek out leadership roles and/or go above and beyond in dedicating time for students and peers outside of class. Domain 3, Leadership, may be difficult to evaluate through classroom observations; therefore, teachers are encouraged to collect and present artifacts that demonstrate effectiveness (this can go in the folder you are given at the end of our session).

Domain III: LEADERSHIP Action Strategies for Obtaining a 3: 1. Attend mandatory and voluntary professional development sessions. 2. Ask a colleague for assistance in building a desirable skill. Repeat this activity as often as possible to build professional know-how. 3. Help colleagues who are in need of assistance. Additional Strategies for Obtaining a 4: 4. Initiate or join a Professional Learning Community. Set clear goals and plan of action for the school year. Meet regularly to accomplish goals. 5. Mentor a new teacher, help a teacher new to the school, assist a struggling teacher, work with a pre- service teacher, or host a student teacher. Documentation List participation in professional development on this topic, including books and articles read. Strategies for Obtaining a 3: 1. Keep a running record of professional development sessions attended. Include dates. File certificates to prove attendance. (These can also be used to renew teaching license.) 2. Record skills acquired through formal and informal training sessions with outside presenters and colleagues. Include dates. 3. Record instances of assistance to other teachers. Additional Strategies for Obtaining a 4: 4. Type Professional Learning Community goals and action plan. Record meeting minutes, notes from any peer observations, literature read, etc. 5. Document work with new, struggling, pre- service, and/or student teacher. Domain 3: LeadershipDomain 3: Leadership‎ > ‎ Competency 3.2 Collaborate with Peers Levels 3 & 4 - Teacher s eeks out and participates in regular opportunities to work with and learn from others. Teacher asks for assistance, when needed, and provides assistance to others in need. Level 4 - Teacher may go above and beyond in seeking out opportunities to collaborate, coach peers through difficult situations, and/or take on leadership roles within collaborative groups such as Professional Learning Communities. Domain 3, Leadership, may be difficult to evaluate through classroom observations; therefore, teachers are encouraged to collect and present artifacts that demonstrate effectiveness (this can go in the folder you are given at the end of our session).

Domain III: LEADERSHIP Action Strategies for Obtaining a 3: 1. Take advantage of relevant professional development opportunities. For example, attend workshops and conferences; participate in webinars; take graduate courses; read books, blogs, websites, etc. 2. Ask colleague(s) and/or administrator(s) for feedback on new practices and/or areas of weakness. Try their suggestions and discuss how it worked. Additional Strategies for Obtaining a 4: 3. Set up groups for each grade level and/or department, as well as a group for the entire teaching staff. Share newly learned knowledge and practices, as well as helpful resources (books, websites, professional development opportunities, etc.) with pertinent groups via Offer to lead professional development to staff in an area of professional expertise. Documentation List participation in professional development on this topic, including books and articles read. Strategies for Obtaining a 3: 1. Keep a running record of all professional development. 2. Keep a running record of advice requested, action taken, and results. Additional Strategies for Obtaining a 4: 3. File each sent to share knowledge and practices with colleagues. 4. Document professional development presentations led. Domain 3: LeadershipDomain 3: Leadership‎ > ‎ Competency 3.3 Seek Professional Skills and Knowledge Levels 3 & 4 - Teacher actively pursues opportunities to improve knowledge and practice, seeks out ways to implement new practices into instruction, and welcomes constructive feedback to improve practices. Level 4 - Teacher may regularly share newly learned knowledge and practices with others and/or seek out opportunities to lead professional development sessions. Domain 3, Leadership, may be difficult to evaluate through classroom observations; therefore, teachers are encouraged to collect and present artifacts that demonstrate effectiveness (this can go in the folder you are given at the end of our session).

Domain III: LEADERSHIP Action Strategies for Obtaining a 3: 1. Develop classroom policies and procedures that promote the goal of every child learning (e.g. opportunities for differentiated learning, mastery learning, study sessions, partnerships with parents, emphasis on organizational and study skills, etc.) 2. Seek out special services for students in need. These may include but are not limited to tutoring, counseling, special education services, hearing and vision screening, and high ability programs. Additional Strategies for Obtaining a 4: 3. Follow the chain of command to ensure that students are receiving services promised. Make phone calls, send e- mails, and, if necessary, write formal letters. 4. Collaborate with colleagues to implement programs and policies to help all students in the school succeed. Documentation List participation in professional development on this topic, including books and articles read. Strategies for Obtaining a 3: 1. Develop a brochure detailing supports for student success. Distribute to parents and add to file. 2. Document student services sought and obtained. Additional Strategies for Obtaining a 4: 3. File all communications demonstrating student advocacy. 4. Collect copies of documents detailing new programs and policies for student success. Domain 3: LeadershipDomain 3: Leadership‎ > ‎ Competency 3.4 Advocate for Student Success Levels 3 & 4 - Teacher displays commitment to the education of all his/her students, attempts to remedy obstacles around student achievement, and acts as an advocate for each student. Level 4 - Teacher may display commitment to the education of all the students in the school and/or make changes and take risks to ensure student success. Domain 3, Leadership, may be difficult to evaluate through classroom observations; therefore, teachers are encouraged to collect and present artifacts that demonstrate effectiveness (this can go in the folder you are given at the end of our session).

Domain III: LEADERSHIP Action Strategies for Obtaining a 3: 1. Consider activities to engage parents in their children's learning. Select one or more that will make a considerable positive impact on student learning; implement. 2. Respond promptly to parent contacts and contact parent when an academic, social, or emotional problem is detected. Work together to address the problem. Log date, name of parent, reason for contact, details of resolution, and necessary action. 3. Participate in mandatory parent outreach, such as back-to-school night, parent-teacher conferences, etc. Additional Strategies for Obtaining a 4: 4. Initiate a variety of parent outreach activities to engage parents in their children's learning. 5. Prepare materials (handouts, digital presentations, etc.) to maximize the positive impact of parent outreach activities, such as back-to-school night. 6. Create a class website or newsletter. Post class calendar, assignments, supporting documents, announcements, helpful websites, etc. Documentation List participation in professional development on this topic, including books and articles read. Strategies for Obtaining a 3: 1. Document parent engagement activities. 2. File parent contact log(s). 3. Log participation in mandatory parent outreach activities. Additional Strategies for Obtaining a 4: 4. Create a course overview in which curricular, assessment, and disciplinary expectations are clearly spelled out. Include a section that provides ways the parent may support student learning. Distribute to parents at the beginning of the school year and post on class website. 5. File copies of supportive materials for parent outreach activities. 6. Provide website access to administrator and/or evaluator and/or file all parent newsletters. Domain 3: LeadershipDomain 3: Leadership‎ > ‎ Competency 3.5 Engage Families in Student Learning Levels 3 & 4 - Teacher proactively reaches out to parents in a variety of ways to engage them in student learning, responds promptly to contact from parents, and engages in all forms of parent outreach required by the school. Level 4 - Teacher strives to form relationships in which parents are given ample opportunity to participate in student learning and is available to address concerns in a timely and positive manner, when necessary, outside of required outreach events. Domain 3, Leadership, may be difficult to evaluate through classroom observations; therefore, teachers are encouraged to collect and present artifacts that demonstrate effectiveness (this can go in the folder you are given at the end of our session).
