HOW TO EFFECTIVELY MANAGE VOLUNTEERS Sheryl Sollars and Sara Hauser SAMS 2015

Westfield Washington Public Library Volunteer Program

Expectations of our Volunteers Set schedule Let the library know if you will not be here We respect our volunteers time Volunteer handbook

What do our volunteers do for the library? All of our materials are now processed by volunteers. All of our repairs are done by a Volunteer Volunteers help with cleaning of DVDs Volunteers help set up children’s storytimes Volunteers help clean computers Volunteers help scan books for our friends group to sell on Amazon All of our fiction books are shelved by our volunteers

Who are our volunteers Most of our volunteers are seniors/retirees Some teenagers/college students – national honor society, school related community service One former staff member volunteers We do not have court ordered community service volunteers – this became too staff intensive

How do you become a volunteer at WWPL? We usually advertise a need for volunteers in our newsletter and on our website We have a volunteer application that we ask our volunteers to complete

How do we recognized and thank our volunteers Every Spring during National Library week we have our staff appreciation and volunteer dinner. All of our volunteer’s are recognized for their hours of service and given a small token of our appreciation. Usually a gift card from Barnes and Noble.

Thank you Questions?? Sheryl Sollars, Library Director, Westfield Washington Public Library ext. 106
