AAbstract Art

Wassily Kandinsky Kandinsky was a Russian painter who was famous for creating abstract pictures with lots of colors and shapes. He was the first famous abstract artist! He wanted people to enjoy the colors and the shapes in his paintings. An he said that good art does not have to look like something in a photo. Abstract art can be beautiful too! What do you think?

Chuck Close Chuck Close is an artist that paints in a very different style. His artwork looks very real.

Chuck Close In 1988 Chuck Close became paralyzed and he is now in a wheel chair. He did not have control of his arms and hands to paint the perfect photos that he did before…

Chuck Close Instead of giving up on painting he decided to try a new style! He started painting with a grid. Up close his paintings look like squares and blobs, but far away they look like portraits!

Kandinsky & Chuck Close Some people think that Chuck Close might have gotten the idea to do circles from the famous painter named Wassily Kandinsky. What do you think?

Wassily Kandinsky Kandinsky was a Russian painter who was famous for creating abstract pictures with lots of colors and shapes. He was the first famous abstract artist! Fold your 9”x9” paper in half two times. In pencil, write your name on the back, and trace your fold lines with pencil to make them darker. Use oil pastels. Start in the middle with a small colored circle. Keep making bigger and bigger circles until each square is filled. Color them in nice and dark! If we put all of our drawings together they will look like a giant Kandinsky painting!!!
