Scan Procedures for Ford EEC-V OBD II Systems

The user selects different menu options using the 1) rotary dial at the center of the NGS, 2) the Trigger bar, 3) or one of the numbered buttons beneath the NGS display window Several vehicle systems can be accessed User Inputs and Display Rotary Dial Trigger Bar Display

EEC-V Diagnostic Links This window displays all modules installed in the vehicle Scroll with the Rotary dial to select the module to test and then, Hit the Trigger bar

Selecting the Test Function - EEC -V F Diagnostic Test Modes Selects type of test to run F PID/Data Monitor and Record Select data stream parameters to monitor and record for future reference F Diagnostic Trouble Code Library Look-up library of DTC definitions F Active Command Mode Selects PCM outputs to activate various components F Module Identification Selects Module to Test

Diagnostic Functions and Data - EEC-V F KOEO and KOER self-tests are selected on EEC-V using the scan tool F DTCs and several diagnostic tests are available from this menu F Current status of all monitor Readiness Tests is selected by scrolling up and down the menu list until the item is highlighted and hitting Trigger (More on this later)

Receive/Clear Continuous Codes - EEC-V F The scan tool will display any Continuous Codes stored in memory F Use the Rotary dial to select the DTC you want information about and hit the Trigger bar F The code description for the highlighted DTC will be shown in the lower box of the display window Code Description

Preparing Vehicle for KOEO and KOER On Demand Self Tests - EEC-V This screen prompts you to prepare the vehicle for either KOEO or KOER On Demand Self-Tests by bringing the engine to normal operating temperature

Displaying DTCs from On Demand Self-Test - EEC-V If any DTCs are stored during the On Demand Self-Test they will be shown in the display window

START - Repeats code retrieval PRINT - Prints DTCs STORE - Places all DTCs in the NGS memory C-ALL - Clears all codes C-ONE - Clears the highlighted code Options:

If you select On Board System Readiness Tests A display will appear to inform you of the system’s current Readiness Status System Readiness - EEC-V

More test information available from the System Readiness Display TESTS - Displays current status of all monitors MIL - Displays a window telling you which module triggered the DTC and turned on the MIL CONT - Sends you to the Generic OBD II functions list

Readiness Status Display The Readiness Status Display gives you the current Complete/ Incomplete status of all monitors TIP: You can view this display during a test drive to see if and when various monitors run to completion

Using Active Command Modes - EEC-V Select ACTIVE COMMAND MODES with the Rotary Dial and hit Trigger QUESTION: What does Active Command Modes do? ANSWER : It allows you to activate components. A separate set of commands in this menu also lets you erase Keep Alive Memory and Transmission data

Output Test Mode - EEC-V OUTPUT TEST MODE is available from the ACTIVE MODES menu When you select OUTPUT TEST MODE, the PCM starts to activate all actuators it can control by alternately turning them ON and OFF

Output Test Mode with PID Monitor If you hit START, the PCM will begin to operate actuators To view an actuator’s response, you must first select it from the list of all devices by marking its PID In this slide, NO devices have been selected for monitoring. No PID data will be displayed until a PID (or PIDs) is selected Select PIDs

Identifying and Selecting PIDs to View To select a PID for viewing in Output Test Mode: F Scroll to the PID and hit the Trigger bar  The TOTAL box will indicate the total number of PIDs you have selected for monitoring TOTAL BOX * FAn asterisk (*) will appear next to any PID that is selected

The ON/OFF status of a selected PID (or PIDs) will be shown on the display so you can see if device is actually responding to the commands Watching the Test Results Now hit the START button START

Using the OBD II Test Interface on Ford Vehicles

Use Scroll Dial to highlight selection and hit Trigger OBD II Test Menu These selections allow you to retrieve more information or execute commands TIP! The arrow to the right of the display indicates that there are more options available using the scroll dial

CONT Additional Menu Items  DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING RESULTS lists all test data from the last oxygen sensor tests  PENDING TROUBLE CODES lists any maturing codes that may store a DTC and turn on the MIL if they are detected again on the next trip  ON BOARD SYSTEM READINESS TEST RESULT lists the pass/fail status of the monitors the last time they ran  EXPANDED DIAGNOSTIC PROTOCOL allows you to manually enter or retrieve and existing numeric string

Readiness Tests - OBD II Interface TESTS lists all system Monitors and their Complete or Incomplete Status F Arrows to the right of the text indicate that there are more lines of data available F TIP! Use Rotary dial to scroll down list and view items not visible on initial display

MIL Module Identification Screen - OBD II Interface Identifies which module turned on MIL CANCEL Bar TIP! Hit CANCEL bar to return to main menu

PID/DATA Monitor - OBD II TIP! The term PID simply means P arameter ID entification. In other words, it is one item on the data display If PID/DATA MONITOR is highlighted and selected with the TRIGGER bar, all data parameters for the vehicle will be displayed highlighted

Selecting PIDs - OBD II Scroll through the list with the Rotary Dial, and hit TRIGGER to select individual PIDs. TIP! To Select ALL PIDs, hit MAX MAX Button An asterisk (*) will appear next to any selected item

Special Function Buttons  DEFN -Gives the definition of highlighted PID  CLEAR - Clears all selections so you can start PID selection from scratch  BLOCK - Selects a Block of PIDs. Highlight one PID. Hit the BLOCK key. Rotate the scroll dial until all the PIDs in a series are highlighted

DEFN Button The DEFN is very useful since there are so many PIDs to identify. The definition of the highlighted PID is displayed at the bottom of the screen so you don’t have to look up each definition separately in a reference manual Definition

Viewing PIDs OBD II After selecting PIDs by turning the Rotary Dial, hit START Data on the status of each selected PID and the Module ( NODE ) providing the data is displayed START TIP! Selecting too many PIDS will slow the update rate.

Viewing Freeze Frame - OBD II In the OBD II Menu, use the Scroll Dial to highlight FREEZE FRAME PID DATA Hit the TRIGGER bar Trigger

Freeze Frame Data - OBD II F Use UP or DOWN buttons to scroll though list F Accessed from OBD II Function Menu F Data is from first DTC stored F Data from a previously stored DTC may be overwritten by a DTC caused by Fuel or Misfire A total of 11 Fuel or Misfire codes have priority over other codes when Freeze Frame is stored UP DOWN Buttons

More Menu Options from the OBD II Menu  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES or CLEAR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES allow you to view and erase DTCs  OXYGEN SENSOR TESTS menu option allows you to view test data from the last time the oxygen sensor monitor ran OXYGEN SENSOR TESTS

Oxygen Sensor Test Data OBD II Interface F Rich-to-Lean and Lean-to-Rich voltages F Low and High sensor voltage for switch time calculation F Rich-to-Lean sensor switch time

Is O 2 Sensor Data Live? After selecting from the data options list, numeric data from the last Oxygen Sensor test will be displayed TIP! Use this information to confirm proper oxygen sensor operation in each test mode This is NOT live data, only the recorded test results
