Presentation transcript:

One who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; one who does not ask a question remains a fool forever. Chinese Proverb Think of a question. Write it down.

Types of Questions Categorize the questions generated by the class into categories. Then, differentiate among the categories.

Scientific Questions 1.Can be related to solving a problem How can I climb the mountain using just a pick? What is the interior of the Earth made of? How can oil be separated from petroleum? 2.Can be used to link two factors How does temperature effect reaction rate? Can eating Cheerios really lower cholesterol? Does lack of sleep cause inattentiveness?

Solving a Problem How can my team construct the cheapest, tallest freestanding tower strong enough to hold a golf ball on a tee at the top of the tower using only the materials provided? (Towers must be at least 1 meter tall)

Select a Journalist Before you begin, elect one person from your group to be the journalist. This person will record the process your group underwent during this challenge. Be as specific as possible.

Debriefing Share your process with another group – what are the commonalities in your problem- solving approach?
