CENSALREFTEC Reefer Management StarCare™ - March 2009

CENSALREFTEC Reefer Management StarCare™ New generation of Controlled Atmosphere >Maersk Line sets new standards within the containerized Controlled Atmosphere business, with the introduction of the StarCare™ CA container. >StarCare™ is designed especially to carry bananas over longer distances. >StarCare™ maintains excellent cargo quality for up to 45 days. >Banana shippers will be able to reach more distant markets than ever before. >StarCare™ gives shippers/consignees more flexibility compared to Break Bulk. >StarCare™ eliminates the need for Banavac bags and thereby reduces costs.

CENSALREFTEC Reefer Management Controlled Atmosphere. What is it …..? >An atmosphere in which oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen concentrations are regulated, as well as temperature and humidity. >This, to maintain good quality of the produce during the storage period. Oxygen 21% Carbon Dioxide 0.03% Nitrogen 78% Carbon Dioxide 5% Oxygen 2% Nitrogen 93% Normal Atmosphere Typical Desired Atmosphere for Bananas

CENSALREFTEC Reefer Management StarCare – how does it work ? >StarCare™ is a passive CA system, meaning that the fruit itself will create the desired CA environment. >During respiration, the banana will absorb Oxygen (O 2 )and thereby reduce the level of this gas. >Low oxygen levels slows down the respiration of fruit. >Also during respiration the banana will produce Carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and consequently increase the level of CO 2 in the container. >Elevated CO 2 level also slows down the respiration and at the same time reduces the production of gray mould (also know as Botrytis). >To optimize the functionality of StarCare™, Bananas should preferably be hotstuffed. >When hot stuffed, the bananas will respire heavily when exposed to cooling. Consequently the commodity will absorb O 2 and produce CO 2 much faster than if bananas were pre-cooled. >Gas levels and temperature will be brought down/up to the setpoint fast (within 48 hours). O2 level Co2 level

CENSALREFTEC Reefer Management StarCare – how does it work Membrane technology >Once the gas levels have been reached (for bananas typically 2% O 2 and 5% CO 2 ), the membrane will start to work. >When/if CO 2 level gets above setpoint: >CO 2 molecules will easily pass through the membrane and out of the container, whereas only few Oxygen and Nitrogen molecules will be allowed to pass. >When/if O 2 levels reach below setpoint: >Automatic fresh air intake will open and let in ambient air, until O 2 levels are back in range. CO 2 O2O2 N2N2 Fresh air intake

CENSALREFTEC Reefer Management StarCare™ - Controlled Atmosphere Technical features >Capable of maintaining gas levels +/- 1,0% from setpoints. >Advanced membrane technology. >Sensors available: Oxygen (O 2 ), Carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and Humidity (H 2 O ). >Automatic fresh air intake.

CENSALREFTEC Reefer Management StarCare™ New markets within reach >Ecuador >Middle East >Japan, China >Russia >Black Sea >Mediterranean Sea >New Zealand >Costa Rica >Russia >East Coast South America >Philippines >Middle East >West Africa >Northern Europe >Mediterranean Sea

CENSALREFTEC Reefer Management Next step….. We want to do business with you. >We hope this presentation has sharpened your interest for our new CA product. >We truly believe the StarCare™ will be a success within the banana market and look forward to bringing the best quality bananas to new markets for our customers.
