Enviroment The ocean is very important for our planet. Earth is covered covered by ¾ or 75% of water. 97.2% of the water on Earth is salt water and 2.8% is fresh water. The ocean has been here for more than 3 billion years. There are 4 main oceans. They are called the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, the Indian ocean, and the Artic Ocean.

Animal Life There are so many different kinds of animals in the ocean! We some times call them marine animals. Marine means connected with or living in the ocean. There are lots of different kinds sea animals. Animals with shells, such as oysters and clams, are called mollusks. Have you noticed that s fish has gills, fins, scales, and camouflage. Whales, dolphins, and porpoises are mammals, and must come up to the surface to breath air.

Plant Life Did you know that Plankton is a mixture of plant and animals life in the open ocean away from shore. It provide food sources for many ocean animals. The plant life portion of this mixture is called phytoplankton. Do you know what Algae is ? Well if you don’t or do you might want to know any way. Algae is the name for plants that grow under the water. You may know it is seaweed.

Climate The oceans average temperature is 39 F and 3.8 C. Even though the oceans have very different climates. If it is closer to the equator it is warmer and when it is farther of the equator it is colder. Another thing that will cause different temperatures would be ocean currents. There are cold ocean currents and warm ocean currents.
