The past, present, and future of things Presentation prepared by the student Il’ina Alexandra, 7A Class

Million years ago… Many millions years ago people didn’t know how to eat at the table. They ate from big pots. At first they didn’t use spoons.

First spoon The first spoons appeared 3000 years BC. They were made of wood. Sometimes instead of spoons people used stale bread. They begin using the first spoons made of baked clay in the 3d millennium BC.

Different materials for spoons In ancient Europe spoons were made of wood. In Greece people used seashells. In Egypt spoons were made of ivory, stone and wood. Later, in Rome and Greece, they were made from bronze and silver.

Golden spoons In 1259, there were golden spoons. Such spoons were only for kings and nobles.

Spoons today Today spoons are made of metal, plastic and glass. Spoons are different: there are spoons for candy, sauce, broth, eggs, soup and grapefruits.

Spoons in the future I think in the future there will be such spoons as you see in the picture. The spoon has changed a lot through the ages. It suits to different tastes.

In conclusion: So you see that an ordinary thing as a spoon has got its own interesting history. But we don’t think about it in our daily busy life. Do you know the history of other things we use every day?
