FICTION GENRES

FANTASY Fantasy is a genre that uses magic and other supernatural phenomena as a primary element of the plot or setting.

SCIENCE FICTION Science fiction is a genre of fiction dealing with the impact of imagined innovations in science or technology, often in a futuristic setting

REALISTIC FICTION Realistic fiction, although untrue, could actually happen. Some events, people, and places may even be real. Realist fiction appears to the reader to be something that is actually happening.

MYSTERY Mystery fiction or detective fiction is a novel or short story in which a detective (either professional or amateur) investigates and solves a crime.

ADVENTURE In the adventure genre, the main characters are consistently placed in dangerous situations, and must live by their wits and their skills.

HISTORICAL FICTION Historical fiction tells a story that is set in the past. The setting is usually real and drawn from history, and often contains actual historical people, but the principal characters tend to be made up.
