2008 BRFSS National Survey Added 12 questions for Utah only –How Utahan’s obtain rx pain meds –How Utahan’s use rx pain meds Random digit dialing Non-institutionalized adults 5330 participants

Results 36% of respondents used pain meds prescribed by a doctor last year 3% used more frequently or in higher doses

Results 69% (N=1087) had leftover medication from their prescription

Results 4% used rx pain meds NOT prescribed to them 90% obtained from friend or relative

Use of Meds NOT Prescribed to You Males more often than Females 18-24
