Linear Equations TheSlope-InterceptForm

The Slope-Intercept Form is a standard way to express a linear equation. Remember: A linear equation shows how the x-coordinate and the y-coordinate work together to form a line on the coordinate plane.

Y is the y- coordinate. M is the slope. X is the x- coordinate. B is the y-intercept. The Slope-Intercept Form is Y = MX + B.

Remember: The y-coordinate tells us how far to count up or down when making our point. The y- coordinate is the second number in the ordered pair. For example, if the ordered pair is (-3,5), we count up five spaces to make our point. The y-coordinate tells us how far to count up or down when making our point. The y- coordinate is the second number in the ordered pair. For example, if the ordered pair is (-3,5), we count up five spaces to make our point.

… and …. The x-coordinate tells us how far to count right or left when making our point. It is the first number in the ordered pair. For example, if the ordered pair is (-3,5), we count 3 spaces to the left to make our point. The x-coordinate tells us how far to count right or left when making our point. It is the first number in the ordered pair. For example, if the ordered pair is (-3,5), we count 3 spaces to the left to make our point.
