Project objectives Improve the quality of education in rural schools by: –Improving literacy skills—the basis for the acquisition of other skills—through the provision of quality learning materials –Improving teachers’ skills through the provision of teacher training and the promotion of professional networks –Improving the information base for monitoring quality and efficiency by supporting evaluation capacity in education

READ Component 1: Improving teaching and learning in rural schools Subcomponent classrooms in 383 soum and bagh schools will receive grade-specific classroom libraries with160 local and international titles. Small group of schools will receive technology to access children’s digital library. Subcomponent 1.2 Professional development to all grade 1-5 teachers in soum and bagh schools. Networks of teachers within school clusters

 Run by Maryland Foundation, USA  Contains books in 33 different languages  Anyone who has the Internet access can read books  Now 23 books uploaded, more 200 books

 5-10 rural schools will be selected to pilot the digital library  Some will have internet access, some will have local servers  5-10 computers and software will be provided  ICT teacher will work with primary teachers and students
