Chapter 10.5 Notes Part I: Simplify Radical Expressions Goal: You will simplify radical expressions.

A radical expression is an expression that contains a radical, such as a square root, cube root, or other root. A radical expression containing a square root is in simplest form if the following conditions are true: – No perfect square factors other than 1 are in the radicand. – No fractions are in the radicand. – No radicals appear in the denominator of a fraction. – No negative numbers inside the square root.

Product Property of Radicals: The square root of a product equals the product of the square roots of the factors. i.e. Ex.1: Simplify the expression. a. b.

Ex.2: Simplify the expression. a. b. Ex.3: Simplify the expression. a. b. c. d.

Ex.4: Simplify the expression. a. b. c. d. e. f.
