The Wamogo Agriculture Program

3 Parts of the Ag Ed Program Class Animal Science Plant Science Natural Resources Ag Mechanics FFA SAE

FFA In 1928 FFA USED TO stand for Future Farmers of America but now it is called the National FFA Organization. Currently, the letters do not represent words. This name change in 1988 is due to the fact that not everyone in agriculture is participating in production farming – we have small animal veterinarians, florists, landscapers, etc. The area of agriculture is more diverse than it was in the past.

FFA is The leadership organization for students enrolled in agricultural education – you CANNOT be an FFA member unless you are in an ag ed program (this is not like 4- H) FFA is intercurricular – that means we teach and work within class too – not just after school

What do we do in FFA? Field trips Fun – ice skating, corn maze Educational – Mystic Aquarium, Botanical Garden Travel Leadership Conferences Fairs Fundraising Competitions Public Speaking Related to area of interest in agriculture

SAE SAE = Supervised Agricultural Experience This is a project/work experience that allows you to learn more about the area of agriculture that you are interested in

Types of SAE projects Placement Paid – work for a veterinarian Volunteer – volunteer at an animal shelter Entrepreneurship – own your own business Mow lawns Sell dog treats Research Research animal training methods, nutrition

What are the SAE requirements? 40 hours per marking period & in the summer, starting the summer after your freshman year (total 600 hours) Setting goals Keeping records
