The October Revolution Bolshevik Victory

Discontent under the Provisional Government Soldiers wanted the war to end Peasants were not given land promised Workers were hungry and underpaid

Lenin and the Bolsheviks Lenin’s message of “peace, bread and land “ had gained much support for the Bolshevik Party.

Lenin demands an uprising Fearful that the chance would be lost Lenin persuaded the Bolsheviks to attack the Provisional Government.

Trotsky and the Red guards Leon Trotsky was given the task of organising the Bolshevik soldiers – the Red Guards

Red Guards capture key buildings The important buildings like the post office, railways, telephone centres and bridges were all captured by the Red Guards.

Signal to Attack The battleship “aurora” sailed up the river Neva and fired some shots towards the Winter Palace where the Provisional Government were based.

Winter Palace This was surrounded by the Red Guards who stormed the building looking for the Provisional Government.

Provisional Government arrested With little or no resistance the government were found and captured.

Bolshevik Victory For the moment at least the Bolsheviks were in control of the government in Petrograd. By the end of November the rest of Russia’s cities had been brought under control.
