Better Care Better Health Better Life CPD/PQL Strategy The Continuing Professional development/Post Qualification Learning strategy was published in December 2010 after a consultation period. PLEDGES There were 10 pledges from NHS NW to take forward.

Better Care Better Health Better Life Pledges 1.To make available details of MPET funded mechanism, inclusive of non-NHS access. DH central provision NHS NW contracted provision and flexible contracted provision NHS NW cash allocation (£13.5m) Regional investment for specific strategic priorities (£7m)

To determine with stakeholders, a process by which core provision is determined and refreshed each year as part of the annual commissioning plan cycle. Pertinent to all eligible practitioners Annually refreshed Take into account what was commonly accessed Strategic priority Sub-regional meetings to be held at the end of September 2011.

To agree a system of regional coordination and collaboration, with regards to the specification and delivery of unique/specialist provision, ensuring annual monitoring and management is in place. Where demand is low in number but high in priority Regional coordination and collaboration to ensure maximum efficiency. Information from Post Qualification Electronic Monitoring Tool (PQ EMT)

To agree a single system of CPD/PQL resource, integrating all regional investment and making utilisation figures available to create transparency, drive improved value and better inform local decision making. Minimise number of separate pots of monies Public facing website (e WIN) enabling access to key information (from PQ EMT) including: Professional groups Service provider allocation and deployment Completion/attrition rates Programme/development demand

To facilitate coordination of sub-regional dialogue and outcome performance monitoring, ensuring a process fit for purpose, as new workforce and education mechanics emerge. Information from PQ EMT Building Learning and Development Excellence – to enhance the capability and capacity of learning and development leads. High performing function, competences and development programme.

Better Care Better Health Better Life Pledges 6. To lead a review and consultation on the introduction of a standard unit price, ensuring appropriate transition across all relevant HEIs. Joe McArdle has met with Council of Deans who are tasked with taking this forward. This may be based on units of 5 credits to maximise flexibility as well as accommodating existing modular frameworks.

Better Care Better Health Better Life Pledges 7. To share case studies of best practice with regards to system flexibility. Already on e WIN and all can add case studies. 8. To pursue through the NW Universities Group a process for cross institutional recognition of academic credit, including the conversion of work based experience. Joe McArdle raised this with Council of Deans and they are taking it forward. Includes APL and AP(E)L Accreditation of work-based learning

To continue to support new ways of learning work streams and include as a performance measure to drive improvement, in terms of both access and satisfaction Flexibility of learning styles.
