Energy is the ability to cause change or do WORK. WORK is to make something MOVE by applying FORCE to it. There are 7 Types of Energy that can cause things.
Kinetic and Potential Energy have many forms. 1. Mechanical Energy - Energy associated with motion or position.
Forms of Energy. Nature of Energy Energy is the ability to do work. If an object or organism does work, then it uses energy. Work is the use of a force.

Energy Notes

The ability to do work is known as ENERGY

Forms of Energy Kinetic- Energy of Motion All moving objects have kinetic energy Ex: Walking, running, a moving car

Potential- Energy of position or shape, stored energy. Ex: Standing still, soccer ball sitting in the grass

Thermal Energy- The total energy of the molecules in an object. At higher temps molecules move faster. Ex: Ice, water , steam

Chemical Energy- Stored in a substance that can be released when the substance reacts. Ex: Burning wood, digesting food

Electrical Energy- Flow of electricity; energy of moving electrons. Electrons are negatively charged particles and move back and forth in the wires. Ex: Computer , washer, T.V.

Sound Energy- Caused by the vibrations in an object. Ex: Guitar, radio

Light Energy - Caused by the vibrations of electrically charged particles. Examples: Microwave, Lamp

Nuclear Energy – Is caused by changes in the nucleus of an atom. Ex: Sun, atomic bomb, uranium
