ROYAL UNIVERSITY OF PHNOM PENH RUPP

1. Royal University of Phnom Penh - RUPP began as the Royal Khmer University on January 13, The Royal Khmer University became the Phnom Penh University and there were nine faculties , during the Khmer Rouge regime, the campus was closed , It was reopened again. Teaching predominantly in French. In 1981, the Institute of Foreign Language (IFL) began , the college and the IFL merged to create Phnom Penh University - in 1996 the name was changed to the Royal University of Phnom Penh. - At present, RUPP is the oldest and largest institution of higher education in Cambodia: over 8,000 students across 3 campuses, 275 teachers.

4. Access to the information Chuon NatWeb OPAC started in ,232 items can be accessed - Cambodiana Collection in English language can be accessed * Emphasis on Cambodiana Collection as a national heritage

5. Other Libraries in Cambodia  National Library of Cambodia (NLC)  Oldest library in Cambodia, since 1921  The NLC was closed from and re-opened in 1980  Today the library has a collection of over 80,000 volumes.  The Buddhist Institute  One of the prominent collection of its kind in Southeast Asia.  Has the collections in Khmer and English around 20,000 volumes, mostly related to Buddhism, Khmer culture, history and art  CDRI Library  An excellent small library that focuses on economic planning and development.  The collection of books and serials in Khmer and English  National Assembly Library  Established in 1993 election  Has specialized collection in Khmer, English and French around 3,000 volumes.  Special Libraries  Two special libraries in Phnom Penh, which provide support for the teaching and languages. One is CCF library and another is NETREC.  Provide the teaching of their respective languages, and their collections include textbooks, audio-visual materials and posters.  Inter-Lending and Document Supply – Future Needs.

5. Other Libraries in Cambodia (Cont.)  Center For Khmer Studies (CKS)  Found in  Khmer civilization and the cultures of the Mekong.

6. Future Plan For Hun Sen Library - To increase the knowledge of staff by local training and overseas training - To find the support for subscriptions of science journals - To continue e-catalogue the French books into ALEPH system. - To extend the existing of building, 2400 qm, by World Bank grant. It will be started on May 2007.
