Monday, September 14 1 The Schwa Was Here Vocabulary: Copy the word and definition 1. schwa- (n)the faint vowel sound in many unstressed syllables in the English Language. Ex: the e in overlook, a in forgettable- sounds like “uh” 2. mannequin- (n)a usually life-size model of the human body used to display or fit clothes 3. capische- (v) slang for “Do you understand?” 4. persistence- (n) the quality of continuing steadily despite problems or difficulties 5. Teflon- (n)a plastic with nonstick properties used to coat cookware 6. Semicolon Rule #1- only use a semicolon between two independent clauses when the clauses are related to one another. Example: The football team will this game; we will cheer the whole time.
