P 2 AD Partnership Program Background

P²AD Partnership Program Fosters environmental leadership by: Assisting Rewarding Connecting Uses flexible approach based on the Environmental Management System (EMS)

Partnership Structure Three performance levels –Yellow, Red and Blue –Facilities may apply at any level (based on their achievements) –Partners have three years to meet commitments One advocate level –White –Provide support for the Program –Commit to perform three activities per year

Beyond EMS Requirements Red Level: EMS Implementation –Implement 1 community outreach activity –Implement 1 supply chain or EPP activity Blue Level: EMS & Promoting Sustainability –Implement 3 community outreach activities –Implement 2 supply chain or EPP activities –Implement 1 sustainability activity –Complete 2 mentoring activities

Sample Activities Community Outreach & Volunteerism –Seek stakeholder input on environmental efforts –Support a community waste reduction, reuse, composting, recycling or clean-up program –Develop and/or participate in a habitat protection program (e.g., Adopt-A-Stream)

Sustainability –Full cost accounting system –Green building or product design –Habitat or ecosystem protection –Life cycle impact analysis Sample Activities

Mentoring –Encourage suppliers to participate in EPA’s Green Suppliers Network –Conduct an EMS audit or gap analysis for another Partner –Educate other businesses or organizations about the importance of becoming a P²AD Partner –Mentor other companies on how to successfully implement Program activities or specific P2 practices –Offer guided tours of business to P²AD Partners Sample Activities

Ensuring Credibility Stakeholder involvement process External Advisory Panel –Members represent a cross-section of Program stakeholders: business/industry, commercial/institutional, academia, regulatory and environmental organizations –Provides general recommendations on Program maintenance and improvement –Reviews Red and Blue Level applications –Recommends new Partners to the Program –Reviews annual performance reports and compliance screens and recommends Partners for annual awards.

Continual Improvement Process (Stakeholder Involvement) Solicit input from stakeholders Propose draft Release draft for comment Present proposed programmatic changes to Advisory Panel Incorporate approved changes into Program Evaluate Program
