OXFAM-DELAGUA water analysis kit WATSAN M15 ERU 13 GENERAL MAINTENANCE Weekly Wash, rinse and dry the filtration apparatus Apply a smear of silicone grease to the black rubber O-ring Charge the internal battery fully at the end of each week CAREFULLY READ THE MANUAL Monthly Check the incubator temperature and recalibrate if necessary Check all the kit components

OXFAM-DELAGUA water analysis kit WATSAN M15 ERU 14 BATTERY Never allow the internal battery to discharge fully. Never leave the incubator switched on for more than 18 consecutive hours Always recharge the battery at the end of the working period in the field. Recharge monthly during storage. CAREFULLY READ THE MANUAL

OXFAM-DELAGUA water analysis kit WATSAN M15 ERU Summary of the bacteriological analysis process

OXFAM-DELAGUA water analysis kit WATSAN M15 ERU 16 Preparation: –Sterilization of equipment: (autoclave, pressure cooker, methanol, boiling) –Petri: 15 min in autoclave or with methanol –Filtration apparatus: 15 min with methanol –Culture medium (38 gr/500 ml distilled water) –Petri dishes (Up to 16 daily samples) Filtration process Filtration volume (10 ml, 50 ml,100 ml) Filtration control Incubation (16-18 H 44ºC) Counting colonies: Yellow colour (faecal coliforms)

OXFAM-DELAGUA water analysis kit WATSAN M15 ERU 17 Presentation of results The results are presented as CFU/100ml CFU (Colony forming units) 100 ml of sample (treated or very clean water) have been filtered: CFU/100ml = nº of identified colonies as coliforms 50 ml of sample have been filtered: CFU/100ml = nº of identified colonies as coliforms x 2 10 ml of sample have been filtered: CFU/100ml = nº of identified colonies as coliforms x 10 It is possible to use smaller volumes in samples with higher contamination. The results should be calculated multiplying by the correspondent dilution factor.
