Name: Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 Draft year: 1977 Amendment years: 1990 International or National: National The Surface mining control and reclamation act of 1977 was created to regulate the damage that mining companies had done to land that had been strip mined when looking for minerals. Part of the reclamation is once the mining company has completed their job they must restore the land to its somewhat original state to prevent further damage to the land and the environment around it.
