Lent (1)

WE COME TO GOD IN PRAYER The Lord is near to all who call on him. Come, let us worship him. Praise to you, O Lord, king of eternal glory.

WE PRAY PSALM 86 Hear me, Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Guard my life, for I am faithful to you. You are my God. Have mercy on me, Lord, for I call to you all day long. Blessed are the poor in spirit.

You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you. Hear my prayer, Lord; listen to my cry for mercy. When I am in distress, I call to you, because you answer me. Blessed are the poor in spirit.

Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart. Blessed are the poor in spirit.

GOD SPEAKS TO US We do not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

(see seasonal Bible reading guide, or other Bible reading)

WE CONFESS OUR FAITH

(Apostles’ Creed, scriptural song, or hymn/song)

WE PRAY FOR OURSELVES AND THE WORLD Remembering all that our Lord Jesus Christ has done for us, let us pray to our Father in heaven. Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer.

You gave your Son to take away the sin of the world. Lead us to repentance and faith. Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer. Your Son was obedient all the way to his death on a cross. Teach us patience and self-denial. Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer.

Your Son cared for the sick and the troubled. Make us compassionate and understanding towards others. Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer. Your Son was tempted, suffered, and died. Be with all who face temptation, suffering, or death. Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer.

(Other prayers may follow)

Lord Jesus Christ, most merciful redeemer, friend, and brother, make me know you more clearly, love you more dearly, and follow you more nearly, forever and ever. Amen.

WE PRAY THE LORD’S PRAYER

GOD BLESSES US May the God of all grace make us strong, firm and steadfast. And the blessing of almighty God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, be with us always. Amen.
