2011: start of the AWG  AWG started with a nutrition cluster funded project  ACF lead  Rationale of the project: The nutrition surveillance system needs to be reinforced Huge lack of nutritional data leads to difficulties in designing projects in order to design the most appropriate response. 23/03/2014

2011 AWG: Objectives  To provide support to humanitarian actors operating in nutrition field to conduct/administer nutrition assessment and surveys: To create guidelines and tools to conduct rapid nutrition assessment; To share guidelines and tools to conduct anthropometric nutrition survey;  To contribute in the analysis of the nutrition situation in Afghanistan: To set up a nutrition surveillance system to allow follow up of nutritional trends; To collect nutrition survey/assessment reports for analysis and capitalization purpose 33/03/2014

2011 AW Group achievements  Training on SMART and RNA 4 partner NGOs (CHA, AADA, CAF, HN-TPO: 56 staffs), 15 MoPH personnel, 1 UNICEF, 29 staffs of various organizations  SMART and IYCF surveys conducted in 2011: 8 surveys including 4 in partnership with NGO cited above remote support from AWG to Oxfam Novib (4 provinces drought affected) and AHDS/Cordaid (1 province)  Rapid Nutrition Assessment guideline drafted Revision and update after field test with SMART survey in 2012  Training on Nutrition Sentinel Site:  CHA, AADA, CAF, HN-TPO, WFP, SAF, Save the Children and Oxfam.  Pilot in 6 provinces (capitalisation?) 43/03/2014

Re-activation of the AWG: 2014 Linkages with nutrition cluster  Surveillance: SMART/RNA  Prioritization: where monitoring of the situation is crucial? Provinces, districts?  Based on the context: methodo? SMART as much as possible to be the 1 st choice RNA: can this be an option if not validated yet (can feed validation process)?
