Outdoor Digital Dual-Optic High-Performance PIR A new addition to the Digigard family Uses the proven detection technology of our internationally recognized Digigard DG75 Provides the same reliable security for the outdoors Special attention was given to make the casing, PC board, lens and sensors weatherproof Includes features that are unique in the industry By far, the nicest looking outdoor motion detector

Why Outdoors? Alerts you to an intruder’s presence, before they get inside Provides extra security for your property and belongings Ideal for residential outdoor applications –balconies, backyards, swimming pools, toolsheds, driveways, etc. Ideal for commercial outdoor applications –parking area, storage facility, loading dock, walkways, high-security grounds, etc. Activates security devices –lights, chimes, sirens, CCTV cameras, strobe lights, etc.

Challenges of the Outdoors Provides the same reliability as a high-performance indoor motion detector while overcoming potential outdoor disturbances that could affect detector performance –Water, ice and snow –Wind, dirt, dust and insects –Extreme temperatures (hot or cold) –Sunlight –Animals –Moving objects (vehicles, clothes on a line, tree branches, etc.) –Electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference

Presentation Overview In this presentation we will review the following main topics –Physical construction –Patented animal immunity –Other DG85W features –Advanced digital detection system –Installation recommendations

Physical Construction

Weatherproofing Resists water, snow, wind, dust and insects Injected Rubber Gasket –A special rubber gasket is injected into the casing to effectively isolate the unit on all sides –Unique in the industry Second rubber gasket –Another rubber gasket is placed around the lens's mask for additional weatherproofing Plastic PCB cover –Protects important part of electronic circuit on both sides of PC board Rubber foam –Seals the wire entry

Impact and Temperature Resistant Casing made from ABS & polycarbonate –Combining these two plastic materials makes the casing much harder and therefore more resistant to impact and extreme temperatures Withstands temperatures as low as -35  C (-31  F) –The DG85W continued to perform extremely well in our Canadian winters Withstands temperatures as high as 50  C (122  F) –This specification must be respected Recessed lens with protective mask –Reduces the probability of damage from objects that can harm the lens (e.g. ball or machinery)

Lens Material Special Poly IR 9 material with a thickness of 0.5mm (0.02in) provides: –Additional UV protection –Resistance to discoloration and deterioration –A surface that repels dirt and is easier to clean

Dual Optical Filtering System Additional special filters for both sensors Blocks out visible light (e.g. sunlight or car headlights) Allows only infrared light to pass through (e.g. body heat)

Unique Bezel Design The sensors pass through the bezel opening, completely isolating them from the area where air or insects may be able to enter (i.e. screw or wire entry)

Colour Why did we choose this colour? –Lowers the internal temperature of the detector –Because it looks great!

Patented Animal Immunity

Why Animal Immunity? In outdoor applications, animal immunity is vital Pets, roaming animals, birds and rodents pose a potential risk for false alarms Outdoor motion detectors must be able to differentiate between animals and humans Let’s discuss how the "others" do it

One-Sensor Approach (comparison) Some detectors, like the Optex LX-40, use a "quick fix" approach Uses only one infrared sensor –Receives only one signal, which is not enough to effectively distinguish between the energy levels of an animal and a human Generates only one beam and masks part of the lens –Reduces line of sight and creates a single fan-like beam, which forces the detector to be installed lower (1m/3.3ft), otherwise the beam will pass over the intruder's head Generates only 18 coverage zones Requires that you reduce sensitivity to ignore animals

One-Sensor Approach (comparison) Some detectors, like the Optex LX-40, use a "quick fix" approach

Two-Sensor Approach (comparison) Some detectors, like the Optex VX-402, use two sensors, both of which must be triggered to generate an alarm. Upper sensor fixed –Produces a single beam ("finger") that is parallel to the ground –Because of this, the detector cannot be installed higher than 1m (3.3ft), otherwise the beam will pass over the intruder Lower sensor adjustable –Produces a single beam ("finger") that points to the ground in 1 of 4 positions –Each lower sensor position compromises detection either near to the detector or far from the detector (depending on where the lower sensor is positioned) Generates only 14 coverage zones –Each zone represents a beam ("finger") from the motion detector

Two-Sensor Approach (comparison) Some detectors, like the Optex VX-402, use two sensors, both of which must be triggered to generate an alarm.

DG85W Patented Animal Immunity DG85W is immune to pets weighing up to 40kg (90lbs) This is accomplished using: –Patented Digital Motion Detection –Two dual-opposed infrared sensors –A specially designed lens pattern We will discuss this technology in the following slides

Two Dual Opposed Infrared Sensors The upper and lower sensor are opposed The human body generates an equally positive and negative signal pattern

Two Dual Opposed Infrared Sensors Unlike a human body, an animal does not generate an equally positive/negative signal pattern Generally one sensor generates a stronger signal than the other

Specially Designed Lens Beams from the upper and lower sensor are interlaced to ensure better coverage Generates 64 coverage zones compared to 14 zones with the Optex VX-402.

Other DG85W Features

Two Operational Modes DGP2 Mode (addressable) –Connects directly to a Digiplex (DGP-848 or DGP-NE96) 4-wire combus –Communicates its alarm and tamper signals, data and settings via the combus –In this mode, the relay remains active and can be used to activate other devices Relay Mode (conventional) –Functions like any conventional motion detector –Communicates its alarm and tamper signals via relays

Adjustable Sensitivity Multi-level –11 sensitivity settings –Other detectors, like the Optex VX-402 have only three levels Remote adjustment –Unique in the industry –Adjust settings remotely using a keypad or the WinLoad software –Can also be adjusted locally

Metal Shield Metal shield covers parts of electronic circuit Maximizes protection from electromagnetic and radio frequency interference

Advanced Digital Detection System

Patented Digital Detection An industry first Completely software driven, this technology converts, amplifies and processes the sensor’s low-level signal digitally without any analog circuitry. Processes the sensors’ entire signal without any saturation or noise Provides increased accuracy, reliability and superior false alarm immunity

Dual Opposed Detection Compares the entry and exit signals’ polarity Only movement signals generate opposed polarity signals, which are processed by the software Interference signals generate same-polarity signals, which are rejected by the software

Dual Opposed Detection

Patented Digital Auto Pulse Signal Processing Measures energy from each detected signal and stores them in memory To generate an alarm, the memory must reach the required minimum level: –With high-level signals (low risk of false alarms), the detector generates an alarm, functioning as a "non-pulse count" detector –With low-level signals (high risk of false alarms), the detector switches to a very high pulse count mode–resulting in excellent protection against false alarms

Patented Digital Auto Pulse Signal Processing

Digital Dual Edge Processing Separates the entry and exit signals The entry signal and the exit signal must reach their respective levels, otherwise an alarm is not generated. As a result, false alarm immunity is dramatically increased.

Digital Shield Algorithm Real Time DSP (Digital Signal Processing) –Digitally amplifies and filters the sensor signal in real time –Digital filters are accurate and don’t add cost or hardware components Movement Analysis –Measures and calculates the signal’s parameters in real time and then stores them in memory –Compares each signal with a reference bank and if the signal does not meet movement criteria, it is rejected RFI/EMI Protection –Effectively records high-level RF signals without clipping or distortion –Recognizes RFI/EMI conditions and effectively distinguishes between interference signals and movement signals

Digital Automatic Temperature Compensation Automatically adjusts the motion detector’s sensitivity according to the difference between the room temperature and body temperature

Installation Recommendations

Unit Height Install DG85W at any height between 1m (3.3ft) and 3.1m (10ft) –Other motion detectors, like the Optex series, must be installed at 1m (3.3.ft) –When installed too low, the detector becomes more accessible to intruders (tampering). –Because DG85W can be installed higher, its beam pattern is less likely to be blocked by parked cars, snow banks, garbage containers or fences.

PCB Height Adjustment DG85W provides optimum performance and coverage at 2.1m (7ft) –Can be installed between 1m (3.3ft) and 3.1m (10ft) –Ensure that the adjustable measurements marked on the PCB (inside the unit) match the installation height –Installation height is measured from the center of the detector –PCB adjustments should be followed by a walk-test

PCB Height Adjustment

Across Detection Pattern Mount detector so that traffic flows across the detection pattern –Remember that a passive infrared motion detector is not as effective when a person or animal moves towards the detector –Therefore avoid installing it over a door –Install it so that intruder movement is perpendicular or diagonal to the beams

Limit Contact with Outdoor Elements Avoid direct contact with outdoor elements –It is designed to resist the elements to prevent damage to the detector –But some elements can still reduce motion detector effectiveness –For example, if the lens is wet, visibility will be somewhat reduced, much like when your car's windshield is wet –Avoid installing the detector where strong sunlight could shine directly onto the sensors

Avoid Moving Objects Avoid pointing the sensors towards moving objects or reflective surfaces –Clothes hanging on a line, flags, trees or vehicles

Conclusion

Uses the proven technology found in our DG75 motion detector Weatherproof design Unmatched animal immunity using a patented combination of digital processing, two infrared sensors and a specially designed lens pattern Superior look Unique features
