Leaving the Mount of Beattitudes. One can see Capernaum is really close.

Ancient Capernaum is within the walled area. It may have extended a bit beyond that as the Greek Orthodox Church in the background marks where the healing of the paralytic occurred.

Imagine a harp laying flat. The Hebrew name Kenneret means harp.

What happened to the original synagogue? The original synagogue was black from the volcanic rock. The area experienced earthquakes which may have caused its need to be rebuilt.
