Jesus demonstrates His authority in word.

Mark 1:21 Jesus and his companions went to the town of Capernaum. When the Sabbath day came, he went into the synagogue and began to teach.

Verse 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, for he taught with real authority—quite unlike the teachers of religious law.

Jesus demonstrates His authority in deeds.

Verses 23-24 Suddenly, a man in the synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit cried out, “Why are you interfering with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”

Verses 25-26 But Jesus reprimanded him. “Be quiet! Come out of the man,” he ordered. At that, the evil spirit screamed, threw the man into a convulsion, and then came out of him.

Verses 27-28 Amazement gripped the audience, and they began to discuss what had happened. “What sort of new teaching is this?” they asked excitedly. “It has such authority! Even evil spirits obey his orders!” The news about Jesus spread quickly throughout the entire region of Galilee.

“The Bible is alive—it has hands and grabs hold of me, it has feet and runs after me.” –Martin Luther

“Receiving a Bible translation is like a repeat of the Day of Pentecost, when the Spirit descended to create the church: an early step in God’s mission to make Himself known to a people…To translate is to incarnate. To bring the Bible to a people, in words they embrace, in a language their tongue can feel and articulate, is to say in no uncertain terms that Jesus also lives in their neighborhood.”

2 Corinthians 5:14 If we are out of our mind [just unstable fanatics as some critics say], it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for your benefit. For the love of Christ controls and compels us, because we have concluded this, that One died for all, so that all those who live would no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and was raised for their sake.
