SO - SUCH So is used before an adjective or an adverb : so big so carefully Such followed by 'a' or 'an', is used before an adjective + a singular noun : such a long time such an incredible story Such is used alone (without a, an) before plural nouns, mass nouns and abstract nouns (information, advice, furniture, courage, generosity, interest, kindness... ) such fools such (beautiful) furniture such generosity Compare the following sentences: This book is so interesting. This is such an interesting book. Such interesting books are difficult to find. I was amazed that the crowd was so big. I was amazed that there was such a big crowd. You are so intelligent. You are such an intelligent person. A person of such intelligence is a pleasure to meet.

Comparatives and superlatives Comparatives are used to compare two things. You can use sentences with “than”, or you can use a conjunction like “but”. Jiro is taller than Yukio. Yukio is tall, but Jiro is taller. Superlatives are used to compare more than two things. Superlative sentences usually use “the”, because there is only one superlative. Masami is the tallest in the class. Yukio is tall, and Jiro is taller, but Masami is the tallest.

Comparatives and superlatives One-syllable Adjectives To form the comparative, we add -er to the end of the adjective. To form the superlative, we add -est to the end of the adjective.

Third conditional The first conditional and second conditionals talk about the future. With the third conditional we talk about the past. We talk about a condition in the past that did not happen. That is why there is no possibility for this condition. The third conditional is also like a dream, but with no possibility of the dream coming true.
