Montlouis is in the « Region Centre », in the « Indre et Loire » department about 10km from Tours. Montlouis has been twinned with Appenweir in Germany since 1975 and Castelvetro in Italy since 2002.

Montlouis sur Loire is called like that because the Loire river goes through the town.

The « Maison de la Loire » was created in It gives a lot of information about the Loire and it organises trips on the Loire and on the Loire banks to see beavers and different birds.
