Jupiter & Saturn By Matt Wilson

Jupiter Data Diameter: 142,984 Miles Mass: × kilograms Average distance from the Sun: About 483 1/2 million miles Composition of atmosphere: One large Atmosphere (No actual surface found) Hours per day: 9 Hrs 56 Minutes Days per year: About 4,015 Earth days per every year on Jupiter

Jupiter’s Moons Io: The innermost planet of the four Galilean moons of Jupiter. Callisto: The second Largest moon of the four. Ganymede: The largest moon of Jupiter and the largest in our solar system. Europa: It’s surface is among the brightest in the solar system. Significance: They are the four Galilean moons which are the largest of Jupiter’s moons discovered by Galileo Galilei in January These moons have a radius larger than any dwarf planet.Galileo Galilei

Great Red spot The “Great red spot” has been one of the most recognizable features of Jupiter. It is an anti-cyclonic high-pressure storm that has been active on Jupiter for over 400 years. Although aware of it’s presence, It wasn’t actually observed until NASA’s Pioneer 10 spacecraft flyby in Once measured 40,000 KM across, but now has almost doubled that width.

Rings Believe it or not, Saturn isn’t the only planet with rings. Jupiter also has a system of rings, known as the Jovian Ring System. It was the third ring system to be discovered in our solar system. It was first observed in 1979 by The Voyager space probe. The system is faint and is mostly made up of dust. It is made up of 4 basic components. The Halo, Main ring, and two outer rings known as Almathea and Thebe. This ring system may have existed since the formation of Jupiter.

Saturn Diameter: 120,536 km Mass: × kilograms Distance from the Sun: About km The weight of Saturn is only about one- eighth of the Earth’s because the planet mainly consists of Hydrogen Hours per day: 10,2 Earth hours Days per year: about earth days

Rings In 1655, Christiaan Huygens first suggested that Saturn was surrounded by rings. Using a 50 power telescope, He made many observations proving this fact. There are four main ring groups with 3 smaller, fainter ring groups.Christiaan Huygens

Moons Saturn has a total of 62 moons. 53 have been named. 9 are provisional. The moons have fast sizes, Ranging from just 1 km across to Titan, which is larger than the planet Mercury.
