Civics End of Course (EOC) Exam: The Civics EOC Assessment is a computer based test. All students enrolled in 7th grade Civics must take the EOC. Student performance results are used to calculate 30% of a student’s course grade. 7th grade Civics is a required credit for promotion to high school..

4 th Grade Reading Component of the ELA State Wide Test (2 day session) March 23 rd - April 10 th The Civics EOC assesses 35 Civics benchmarks and 5 also assess benchmarks. The Civics EOC Exam and course addresses major topics, trends, and analysis of individual rights, responsibilities, and functions of local, state, and federal government. Common Core State Standards assist students on HOW to master complex Civics content.

Skills students need to master: Analyze primary and secondary Sources Interpret trends in government that span across multiple time periods Evaluate Civics from political, economic, and social perspectives Understand, evaluate, and interpret charts/graphs Understand and be able to explain political cartoons. Draw conclusions from multiple pieces of complex information Research and write about important historical time periods.

What can you do at home to assist? Provide a quiet, organized place to study Talk to your child about what they are learning in Civics class Encourage students to watch the news, read the newspaper, and ask “why or how” questions. Allow students to think and develop their own political ideas based on their reading and research.
