Tropical Rainforest Biome By: Katie Wellborn

Overview Rainforests are found along the equator in South America, Africa, and Asia. They’re filled with large trees and have more diversity in animals and plants than anywhere else in the world. Typically the forests are humid, with an average temperature between 20 and 34 degrees Celsius. Yearly, the average rainfall could be anywhere between 50 to 260 inches!

Food Web

Typical Animal: Parrot Some of the most colorful and well-known birds in the world reside in the rainforests of the world. They live in the top tree level of the forest and eat both plants and meat.

Typical Plant: Bromeliad A tropical plant in the pineapple family, bromeliads reside on the trunks of the massive rainforest trees Their leaves curve at the base, forming a water tank they use to collect and store rainwater!

Environmental Damage Half of the Earth’s rainforests have already been destroyed by humans because of logging and a need for farm land. This could be fixed by harvesting natural foods in the rainforest instead of cutting down trees for farm land.
