AUBURN UNIVERSITY AFROTC Classes: AIRF 1010/1011 (Freshmen) – Foundations of the USAF AIRF 2010/2011 (Sophomores) – Evolution of Air & Space Power AIRF 3010/3011 (Juniors) – Air Force Leadership AIRF 4010/4011 (Seniors) – National Security Strategies/Prep for Active Duty For all courses in AFROTC, you will be issued textbooks and a syllabus that will highlight key events and standards of behaviors expected for student proficiency. Leadership Lab: Leadership Lab (LLAB) is a two-hour course that works in conjunction with your regular Air Force academic class. LLAB provides you with the “hands-on” practice in leadership that you previously learned in the classroom. Your experiences in Leadership Lab will prepare you for your career as a commissioned officer. Just as you take a chemistry lab as part of your chemistry class, so will you take Leadership Lab in the AFROTC program. At Auburn University, LLAB is built into your academic schedule and currently meets every Thursday, 3:30-5:30 pm. You will wear your uniform all day on LLAB day. Physical Training: All cadets are required to participate in Physical Training (PT) as part of the Leadership Lab (LLAB). The PT schedule is subject to change each semester based on the needs of the Cadet Wing. PT attendance is currently required on Tuesday morning from , and cadets must attend at least one of the additional PT days on Monday or Thursday morning from to meet their weekly AFROTC requirement. PT activities vary from day to day. Expect an exciting workout that will build up your strength and endurance in preparation for the Air Force PT test that is administered each semester. Workouts include cardiovascular circuits, ability group runs, and athletic competitions by class. If you are not in shape, get ready to get in shape! Field Training: All AFROTC cadets must attend field training in the summer between their second and third year. Field training is AFROTC’s version of “basic training”, but Field Training will not just test a cadet’s ability to perform under stress, it is meant to evaluate military discipline and Air Force leadership potential. This is a cadet’s final evaluation in leadership, followership, and teambuilding before they will be allowed to enter the Professional Officer Course. Field Training is four weeks long and takes place at Maxwell AFB, AL. Qualifications required for AFROTC participation: - Be a full-time student at Auburn University or SUSCC (12 credit hrs min) - Be a United States citizen (to contract with the Air Force) - Meet Air Force ROTC height/weight standards - Have good moral character -Be at least 14 years old (17 to contract with the Air Force) -Be no older than 30 years old by the time you commission -Be in good academic standing with the college and AFROTC (2.0 GPA) -Attend POC classes and Leadership Lab -Meet the same dress and appearance standards as active duty personnel -Comply with the Air Force drug abuse policy Applying for AFROTC at Auburn University Application into AFROTC at Auburn University begins with enrollment into your first classes, AIRF 1010/1011. All freshmen will enroll in these classes, but sophomores and transfer students will need to speak with the Recruiting Flight Commander to lay out the remainder of your academic plan to graduation and commissioning prior to registering for classes. Contact the detachment to make an appointment – Air Force ROTC, Detachment 005 Nichols Center, Rm 243 Auburn University, AL (334) Current as of 5 May2011
