Torque Controlled Dies with Twist Transfer Estimated Time for Completion: 5 minutes Experience Level: Higher MSC.Marc 2005r2 MSC.Patran 2005r2

2 Topics Covered 2D solid elements using Hybrid(Herrmann)/Reduced Integration 1D spring element Mooney-Rivlin material model Deformable contact Rigid body contact with Force/Moment control Rigid body contact with Velocity control using non-spatial field Multiple-step analysis Large displacement / Small strains

3 Problem Description Rotation motion (twist) is prescribed on a rigid drive pulley. This twist is transferred to another rigid pulley driven by an elastic belt. The drive pulley first translates to stretch the belt then rotates with a constant rotational velocity. The driven pulley is constrained by a torsional spring, where its rotational velocity is dependent on the spring stiffness and friction.

4 Summary of Model Fixed in translations Deformable contact on belt Rigid body contact on drive pulley with Velocity control using time field Rigid body contact on driven pulley with Force/Moment control Analysis Type: Time-dependent statics Large displacements / Small strains Analysis consists of 2 steps: pretension step rotation step Spring element Mooney-Rivlin material model
