G YANSROTA : DRDO I NSTITUTIONAL R EPOSITORY OF R ESEARCH P APERS /A RTICLES The Institutional Repository (IR) of Research Papers/Articles named “ Gyansrota ” is a centralised scholarly digital archiving facility for acquiring, preserving and disseminating the intellectual output which is published in the form of Research Papers by DRDO Scientists/Staff. 2

N EED FOR I NSTITUTIONAL R EPOSITORY  More than 50 labs/estts. across the country  Wide spectrum of R&D activities  Manpower approx 30,000 (Officers and staff)  Covers almost all areas of S&T domain  Generates huge amount of intellectual output in the form of reports, patents, research papers, monographs out of R&D projects  No centralised mechanism to collect, collate & index this knowledge 3

to preserve and provide improved accessibility and enhanced search ability of research papers/articles of DRDO. to create a centralized online database of full text research papers/articles of DRDO and provide online access to scientific and technical community of DRDO. Objective Gyansrota includes research papers/articles, book, book chapter, orations and biographies published by DRDO Scientists/Staff. Contains full text of each document. Scope 4

11 Digitisation Process Born digital data received from Labs Step 1: Pre-Scan Checking & Preparation Step 2: Scanning Step 3: Image Cleanup (if required) Step 4: Page Straightening & Deskewing Step 5: OCR & PDF Creation Step 6: Metadata Creation Correspondence with DRDO laboratories across India to collect research papers/articles in print/digital form The documents are scanned using ATIZ Book Drive Pro and fuzitsu, OCR and saved as TIF files. Software used: Adobe Photoshop Software used:Scan Tailor Software used: ABBY Fine Reader, Adobe Acrobat Printed Materials Check the completeness of documents State of the documents Size of the documents Place the research paper for scanning Allocate batch number to reords/documents Step 7&8: Check Metadata& Validate Step 9 Upload file in the repository
