A tower is a super structure with a framework which is built in order to fulfil the need for placing objects or person at a certain level above the ground. They can be used as electricity pylons, as a communication tower and to support a wind turbine. A renewed commitment to power generation from clean sources, such as wind, along with the recent deployment of turbines of various sizes that rises to new heights, makes obtaining the most efficient and safe design of the structure that supports them “Towers” ever more important WIND TURBINE THE NEED FOR A WIND TURBINE TOWER

The aim of this project is to analyse and design a steel tower that will support a wind turbine structure for University of Ilorin. The objectives of this project are:  To obtain an estimate of the wind speed in University of Ilorin  To collect information about turbine weight  To model the steel tower using STAADPro  To carry out a complete analysis and design of the tower using MIDASGen  To obtain the deflection at the top of the tower The scope of this project is the analysis and design of a three-legged, self- supporting lattice tower for University of Ilorin with the assumption that hinge connection exists between the members with no consideration for the vibration generated by the wind turbine. AIM AND OBJECTIVES SCOPE OF WORK

 Collection of Wind speed data  Collection of wind turbine weight  Modelling of the steel tower using the STAAD V8  Importing the STAAD V8 drawing to Midas Gen 2014  Assigning the material properties  Defining and Assigning of loads  Set analysis Option and run Analysis  Obtain desired result.
