Scottish Songs Bothy Ballad Basically a ‘bothy’ is a shelter. They were traditionally homes for ‘ghillies’ or farm workers on a large estate or farm. Nowadays they are mainly used by climbers as a shelter or stop over. What to listen for: Story about farming/working in Doric dialect (Aberdeenshire) Very long verses, each verse has the same tune but the lyrics change
