1 Celtic Music

2 The History Celtic music (música celta) is a broad group of music genres that evolved out of folk traditions from the Celtic people across Western Europe. Originates from the Celtic Nations: Brittany, Cornwall, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Isle of Man. They have similar culture & language Celtic music is applied to music from Ireland and Scotland as they have such distinctive styles which have become known worldwide. The styles are known as a result of the music of the people of Scotland and Ireland which had an impact on English-speaking countries such as America, Wales and the Isle of Man. As a result, music styles in Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and Portugal are considered Celtic.

3 Different forms of Celtic Music
Musical genres and styles specific to the country, due to influence of individual song traditions and characteristics of specific languages: Celtic traditional music - music formed from folk traditions Strathspeys - specific to Highlands in Scotland which mimic the rhythms of Scottish Gaelic language Reels - folk dance which accompanies the music, one of 4 dances – jig, strahspey & waltz. Reel is distinguished by the hornpipe in 2 ways – first it is played with even beats and then played twice as fast. Waulking song – Traditional Scottish form of Celtic music, traditionally sung in Gaelic by women while waulking cloth. (Process which involved women beating newly woven tweed against a table to soften it)

5 Festivals The modern Celtic music scene involves a large number of music festivals across the world. Despite these festivals starting in Ireland & Scotland, they now take place in countries including: France (Festival del Kan ar Borbi) Tour through Europe (Paganfest) Italy (Triskell International Celtic Festival) Spain (Asturias, Galicia, Collado Villalba)
