Wheelock Center of Excellence for Military Children and Families In collaboration with:  The Massachusetts National Guard  Military Child Education Coalition

Purpose To maximize the visibility of military support systems, and offer the resources of the Wheelock College community to military families.

Goal 1: Provide training on how to best support and strengthen the role of returning soldiers & their spouses as parents Programs 1. Professional Development Trainings for community leaders and care providers working with military connected families A) Convener for trainings Military Child Education Coalition – LINN Institutes, Guard & Reserve Institute, and LINN Practicum B) Conduct workshop series for early care and education providers C) Offer Human Development Modules about the developmental needs of children, emphasizing the unique needs of military connected children 2. Participation in the Yellow Ribbon Transition -Family Network Program

3.Jumpstart at Wheelock Military Engagement Program

Goal 2: Offer direct care and transition programs to guard and reservist and their families during deployment/redeployment Programs Military Counseling Program 1) Intervention program for military connected students 2) Support groups for deployed loved ones. Tri-AD Veterans League Support Program to enhance health, education, and cultural services for veterans Career Opportunities Program 1) for Military Veterans 2) for civilian teachers and human service providers wanting to work with the military Veteran Transition Program 1) Transfer articulations 2) Courses for veterans

Goal 3: Enhance research capacity for studying the critical needs of service members after the wars are over Programs Senior Leaders Program Research Fellows Program National Research Collaborative Convene experts to conduct research and make recommendations on how to best support post-war military families.

Goal 4: Replicate and expand the Center Wheelock will work with its partners to replicate and expand services to other New England states and other regions of the country.
