Why??? The ancient Egyptians performed the mummification process because it was a part of their customs and traditions.

Process for Slaves If slaves were lucky enough to be mummified, the process would include… The brain being removed The internal organs being removed in random order The body was laid out for approximately twenty-five days without anything put on it The organs were just thrown out in random order Rags or worn-out cloth was thrown on the body The mummy was thrown in a pyramid, and that’s how the process went

Process for farmers and merchants When a farmer or merchant died the mummification process would be performed like this… The brain would be removed Internal organs would be removed in the order of liver, intestines, and stomach Natron salt was put on the body to prevent it from decaying while it was laid in the sun for thirty to forty days The organs were put in sacred jars called canopic jars. Canopic jars came in four different heads for the four organs taken out The first organ, the brain, was put in the falcon headed jar The second organ, the liver, was put in the wild dog headed jar The third, the intestines, were put in the human headed jar Fourth, the stomach, was put in the baboon headed jar The mummy was packed with sands, spices, and scented oils One layer of regular linen was put on the body The mummy was put in a sarcophagus painted according to its life The sarcophagus was put in a pyramid and the process was finished

Process for the Pharaoh The pharaoh’s mummification was taken to great measures. This is how it went… The brain was taken out A cut was made on the left side of the body Internal organs were removed in this order: liver, intestines, and stomach Tree sap and natron salt were sprinkled and glazed on the body The mummy was laid out for forty to fifty days. It’s longer than farmers and merchants because they are more precious The organs were stored in canopic jars The first organ was put in a falcon headed jar, the second organ, the liver, was put in a wild dog headed jar Third, the intestines were put in a human headed jar, and fourth, the stomach was put in a baboon headed jar The mummy was packed with sands, spices, and scented oils A layer of fine linen was wrapped around the body Amulets were put on the body Another layer of fine linen was wrapped around the body It was placed in a sarcophagus that was painted according to what the pharaoh’s life was like Clothes, games, food, toys, and other important stuff was put in the sarcophagus with the mummy The sarcophagus was put in a pyramid, and the process was done
