Presentation transcript:

We are learning about the savanna. The savanna has hot and dry weather. They have a rainy season. There are big cats in the savanna and many more animals. A savanna is an African grassland.

Grasslands cover large areas of South America, Africa, India, North America, and Australia. The grasslands in Africa are called a savanna.

Many plants grow in the savanna. Some of the plants are the baobab tree, steppe grasses, and the whistling thorn tree.

Many animals live in the savanna. Giraffes and elephants eat leaves from trees and grass. Lions eat fish and any type of meat they can find like antelopes and zebras.

Oxpecker birds ride on elephants, hippos and rhinos backs to eat the bugs off of them. The birds get food and other animals get rid of bugs. Ants protect whistling thorn trees from being eaten in the savanna and the ants get a home in the seeds. These are two interactions in the savanna.

Herds of animals travel together on the savanna searching for food and water. Being in a big herd is protection for them. Cheetahs are the fastest land animal in the world. They can run up to 60 miles per hour for short periods. We like learning about the savanna !
