Why Set Goals? It is a collaborative process to set district direction. Keeps focus on student achievement and gaps. Continuous improvement cycle. Last year’s outcomes are this year’s baseline. Drives budget and district priorities. –Framework for decision-making –Roadmap for work of district staff and board. Accountability.

Everyone “owns” the District Goals. The superintendent is responsible for their completion, the Board supplies the resources necessary for their attainment. Board Goals are set to improve process/tasks “owned” by the Board, and are evaluated in conjunction with the board self-evaluation. CSA Personal Goals are derived from the annual leadership skills evaluation. Merit Goals are optional and contained in the CSA’s contract. GOAL DEVELOPMENT

BOARD GOVERNANCE CYCLE

Verona’s Mission Statement The mission of the Verona Public Schools, the center of an engaged and supportive community, is to empower students to achieve their potential as active learners and productive citizens through rigorous curricula and meaningful, enriching experiences.

District Goal Development 3 or 4 District Goals are suggested. Student achievement should be the basis for at least one goal. The goals should support the district’s mission statement and strategic plan. The scope should be broad. The detail will be in the action plans. Goal characteristics – measurable, attainable, student-focused, actionable, rigorous, and set to a timetable.

Last Year’s District Goals Establish a positive, collaborative rapport and build a trusting team-oriented relationship with the Board to ensure effective governance. Build positive relationships through open, honest, and purposeful communication with district administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents, and community members to ensure continuous improvement. Continue to support existing successful practices and identify areas requiring modification.

Strategic Plan Goals 1.Secure adequate financial resources 2.Foster a healthy and respectful school culture consistent with our core values. 3.Partner locally and globally to expand opportunities for our school community. 4.Continue to implement a rigorous, integrated curriculum with authentic experiences and assessments. 5.Provide a meaningful professional development program for staff. 6.Provide upgraded, sustainable building, grounds and technical infrastructure.
