Interpersonal Intelligence ( from Multiple Intelligences theory). Collaborative learning as an approach.

Review Continued Multiple Intelligences theory This is Question #2: – How does this help us as teachers? – Your thoughts – again – from each site.

Your work – after Session #1 What did you try out in your classrooms? What happened? This is Question #3 We look forward to hearing some reports from each of the 3 sites; – Bangkok, Hua Hin, Nong Kai.

Today’s Focus Robert Gagné – “9 Events” in the classroom Interpersonal Intelligence Looking at Interpersonal Intelligence and your text book

9 Events Robert Gagné A summary of things all teachers do. Let’s think of them taking in to account your own experiences.

Gagné 1. Gain Attention – How do you get students’ attention at the beginning of the lesson? – What strategies do you use? – How do you get them interested in the topic of the lesson?

On we go... Describe – set – a goal – Do students know the goal for the lesson? – How do we communicate this with them?

Do we always remember to do this? Stimulate recall of prior knowledge – What do students already know? – What do they want to learn about? – How do you find this out?

How do we differentiate between new and reviewed material? Present the material to be learned. Then present the new material... – Relate the new material to the reviewed material – Help students make connections

This is a big task Provide Guidance for Learning – Activities – Make it interesting and enjoyable – Listen to students’ input about what they enjoy doing. – What else?

PRACTICE Elicit Performance via Practice Interesting, engaging practice is important How do you provide for that? – “practice makes perfect”

How are the students doing? Provide Informative Feedback The students need more than just a grade or a mark. – How do you let them know how they are doing? – How do you assess for yourself, so that you can make changes or improvements in your lessons?

Assess Performance And... How... Did they do???? How do we look at and assess that?

Enhance Retention and Transfer How will students remember this? How will they use this? How will you know??

Review of the 9 Events With a partner – share your notes on Gagné’s “9 Events”. Question #4. Which of the 9 events do you find the most challenging – OR – which event do you always incorporate, and how?

Interpersonal Intelligence Perhaps a fairly obvious intelligence in educational settings. Cooperative learning and group learning projects are sample ways of including this. What are your ideas? Share with a partner? We’ll get some examples from the groups.

Let’s look at a text again In your notebook. P. 28 from My World 5. “Number the story in order” How could you incorporate a focus on Interpersonal intelligence with this activity? Sharing from each site.
