Pigment vs. Light pigments - "subtractive." Red, blue and yellow can create all the colors of the color wheel. (paint, pigments) red + blue + yellow (paints) = brown light - "additive." Red, blue, green create all different colors red + blue + green (lights) = white ("RGB, "computer screens, televisions, digital cameras, stage lights, computer-aided design)

Qualities of Color Hue - color name. A synonym for color (i.e., blue) Saturation - synonym: intensity. How bright or dull the pigment is. Temperature - perceived as warm or cool Value - how light or dark a color is

Saturation - How bright or dull the pigment is. Which color here is most saturated?

Primary Colors "Primary" = first Can be mixed together to make all other colors of the color wheel "Pure" pigments. Cannot be made by mixing two colors together

Secondary Colors Created by mixing two primary colors together

Tertiary (Intermediate) Colors Created by mixing a primary color with a secondary color red + orange = red-orange

Monochromatic Color "mono" = one same hue, different values (light to dark) or saturation (dull to bright)

Complementary Colors Across from one another on the color wheel Strong contrast - draws attention

Analogous Colors Next to each other on the color wheel

Color Temperatures warm cool neutral
