A World-Class Education, A World-Class City Who is CETL?  CETL falls under the umbrella of the Office of the Vice-Provost for Faculty Affairs  Directed by Vice-Provost for Academic Affairs - Renee Taylor.  The Council meets as a whole 2-3 times per year to carry out its work  Groups of members meet additionally to evaluate applications for awards and address other goals of the Council World-Class Education. A World-Class Education, A World-Class City CETL Awards TRP – Teaching Recognition Program The TRP recognizes the documented excellence of UIC faculty in their teaching activities. Awarded to faculty who document outstanding performance in their teaching activities over a three year period. (self-nominated) CIG – Curriculum and Instructional Grant The CIG provides seed money for faculty initiatives designed to enhance the quality of teaching and learning at UIC and that will contribute to an atmosphere of curricular and instructional excellence at UIC. DTEA – Departmental Teaching Excellence Award The DTEA is designed to reward UIC academic units that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to teaching and have documented instructional excellence. The DTEA recognizes the achievement of the entire department (or other eligible academic unit). World-Class Education. World-Class City.

A World-Class Education, A World-Class City TRP Awards  The TRP requires three years of documented teaching excellence.  The TRP is a self-nominated award program.  The TRP is open to tenured, tenure-track, and clinical faculty as well as lecturers, instructors, and adjunct faculty who have teaching appointments of greater than 49% and have been teaching at UIC for at least three years.  Faculty selected to receive the TRP award receive a $1500 increment to annual base salary. This increase is permanent.  Over 385 UIC faculty have received the TRP award.  Up to 20 faculty per year can receive the TRP award.  Typically, CETL receives applications per year for the TRP. A World-Class Education, A World-Class City CIG Awards  The purpose of the program is to build a fund of innovations, demonstration projects, and experiences that will contribute to an atmosphere of curricular and instructional excellence at UIC.  All tenured, tenure-track and clinical faculty are eligible to apply for Curriculum and Instructional Grants.  This program provides seed money for faculty initiatives designed to enhance the quality of teaching and learning at UIC.  The grants have provided over $1,065,000 in "seed money" for faculty initiatives at UIC.  CETL welcomes innovative proposals in any area related to curriculum and instruction. A World-Class Education, A World-Class City CIG Awards  Bringing practical industrial energy assessment experience into the classroom - William Worek, Chemical Engineering 2007  Understanding cognitive development and disability using blended and accelerated online learning practices – Lisa Cushing, Special Education, 2008  Using lecture capture to modularize and then integrate biomedical science education in dentistry – Charlotte Briggs, Dentistry,  Development of Team-based Learning in the Medical Student Pathology Course - Frederick G. A World-Class Education, A World-Class City DTEA Award  The DTEA is designed to reward an academic unit at UIC that has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to teaching and has documented instructional excellence.  Unlike other UIC programs that recognize the achievements of individual faculty, the DTEA recognizes the achievement of the entire department (or other eligible academic unit).  The DTEA offers a one-time stipend of $20,000 to the department selected for this award.  In general, the DTEA award recognizes the accomplishments of ONE (1) deserving department.  This application is a department or team effort so faculty are strongly advised to carefully review the guidelines before submitting applications. A World-Class Education, A World-Class City UIC Rewards and Celebrates Teaching Levels of Recognition  Student  Alumni  Colleges  Campus World-Class Education. World-Class City.

A World-Class Education, A World-Class City Student and Alum Recognition UIC Silver Circle Award (UIC)  Given to faculty members each year since 1996  Awardees chosen by senior class for their outstanding ability  Engraved silver circle plaques, mounted on granite, presented to the award recipients at the May commencement.  Engraved silver circle plaques are mounted on wall in University Hall. UIC Flame Award (UIC): Has not been given for few years  Nomination by alums  Reviewed by the Campus Alumni Advisory Committee  Honorees (maximum of 2 per year) receive a $1,000 stipends and honored at the UIC-UIAA Leadership Award Dinner  For faculty members who have “lit the flame” of students’ desire for intellectual growth and lifelong learning World-Class Education. World-Class City.

A World-Class Education, A World-Class City College Recognition  Honors College  Fellow of the Year, One recipient per year  Fellows:  Mentor Honors College Students  Sponsor and advocate for the students  Honor activities: one per semester  Capstone research project: senior year  Graduate College Mentor Award  Commitment to promote the intellectual growth of graduate students (3-4 awards per year, award amount $2000 each)  Many colleges offer additional teaching awards to their faculty World-Class Education.
