CCA Week 9 Review Power Point Oct 22, th Grade

Digestive System: break down foods for absorption into the blood. eliminating undigested wastes from the body Small intestines is where most nutrients is absorbed.

Skeletal System: Provides shape and support Protects organs Produces blood cells (bones) Protects and supports the body

Muscular System: Allows for movement Protects the bones

Circulatory System Carries needed materials to cells (like oxygen and nutrients) Carries waste products away from cells (like carbon dioxide) Carries cells that fights diseases Arteries: carries blood away from the heart to the body Veins: carries blood back to the heart Remember in the “Can you feel the beat?” lab: – the more difficult the activity got, the higher your pulse rate was

Excretory System Collects and removes waste from the body Maintains water and salt balance in the blood Remember in the “flush those toxins” – The “Filter paper”= kidneys – The “Yellow water” = urine – The “Sand” = toxins in blood – The “Beaker” = bladder

Integumentary System The epidermis prevents germs from entering the body Protects body from injury and infection and prevents water loss Produces vitamin D Regulates body temperature

Work Force is measured in Newton's (N) mass of an object is increased = more work 2 groups are playing tug of war. Group 1 is pulling with a force of 40 Newtons to the right. Group 2 is pulling with a force of 55 Newtons to the left. Which direction has the most force?

Levels of Organization Cell Tissue Organ Organ System Organism Cell Tissue Organ Organ System Organism

Organic Compounds Carbon Hydrogen Phosphorus Sulfur Nitrogen Oxygen Organic Compounds must have Carbon & Hydrogen for it to be considered “Organic”

Physical Changes & Chemical Changes Physical Changes stomach churns(mixes) the food into a liquid Teeth breaking pieces of hamburger apart Chewing food Mashing and churning of food in the stomach Chemical Changes The stomach breaks down protein with enzymes and hydrochloric acid. Formation of gas Fat molecules being broken down into smaller molecules
