Why is Health Insurance Important? Without health insurance, Kansans may not receive the health care that they need. Without health insurance, Kansans may face financial hardship due to medical bills.

Why is Health Insurance Important? Uninsured Kansans are more likely to report fair or poor health. Uninsured Kansans are less likely to have a doctor or health care provider.

Why is Health Insurance Important? Uninsured Kansas adults are more likely to have missed important preventive health screenings.

Sources of Health Insurance Eighty-seven percent of Kansans are covered by private or public health insurance.

Sources of Health Insurance Only 6 percent of adult Kansans are insured through Medicaid.

Sources of Health Insurance The sources of health insurance vary by age group.

Sources of Health Insurance Eight percent of Kansas children are uninsured.

Sources of Health Insurance: Trends The percentage of Kansans with private health insurance declined between 2004−2005 and 2006−2007.

Employer-Sponsored Insurance: Trends Employer-sponsored insurance coverage of adults has declined since 2000–2001, both in Kansas and nationwide.

The percentage of Kansas adults who are uninsured is at its highest point this decade.

The Uninsured: Trends The percentage of Kansas children who are uninsured reached a low in 2003–2004 and has not changed statistically since.

Who are the Uninsured? For adult Kansans, the likelihood of being uninsured decreases with age.

Who are the Uninsured? Young adults comprise a disproportionately large percentage of uninsured Kansans.

Who are the Uninsured? The uninsured population is about evenly split between male and female Kansans.

Who are the Uninsured? Although two-thirds of the uninsured are non-Hispanic white Kansans, Hispanic Kansans constitute a disproportionately large percentage of the uninsured.
