Basic Writing ENGL 099 – Review #2 Instructor

Review  Identify the following word groups as a comma splice (CS) a run-on (RO), or a complete sentence (OK).  Make needed corrections using commas and coordinating conjunctions.

CS or RO or OK?  Every year for 67 years, students complied with the Financial Aid requirements the board review mentioned this accomplishment.

That was a run-on(RO).  To fix that sentence, add a conjunction after the comma :  Every year for 67 years, students complied with the Financial Aid requirements, so the board review mentioned this accomplishment.

CS or RO or OK?  The teachers had expected to receive apples for National Teacher Education Awareness Week, but they received fruit baskets instead.

That sentence was OK.

CS or RO or OK?  When the students encountered a long line at the IT Support Center, they decided to leave for lunch and return at a later time.
