Examples: 9 = factors are 1, 3, 9 24 = factors are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24 Exponent – Shows how many times a number, called the base, is used as a factor. (Numbers in green are exponents.) Examples: 3² or 4³ Base – A number used as a factor. (Numbers in red are base numbers.) Examples: 5³ or 6²
