AUTHORITY of A MINISTRY 1 st Century Crete JESUS CHRIST PaulTitusEldersCongregation 21 st Century Canada JESUS CHRIST New Testament Scriptures (Apostles) EldersCongregation

ANALYSIS of A CHURCH ELDERS – Spiritual Leaders in Congregation give oversight The Body of CHRIST The Bride of CHRIST Membership through FAITH in JESUS CHRIST SERVING Gifts Serving Encouraging Giving Showing Mercy Hospitality SPEAKING GIFTS Prophecy Teaching Encouraging Leadership Wisdom Knowledge

A Leader’s “To Do” List TEACH – instruction in Godly living through example and exhortation ENCOURAGE – Positive support for Godly living through ongoing support REBUKE – Challenging warnings correcting ungodliness within the lives of believers Do NOT let anyone despise you “despise” – to think around, to overlook, to ignore

Questions for LEADERS TEACH – What are you teaching by your words and conduct? Is your conduct eroding what you are seeking to teach? ENCOURAGE – Have you taken time to encourage those you are leading? What is your “Barnabas” strategy? REBUKE – How do you handle “issues of sin” in the lives of those you are leading? Have you followed godly strategies (e.g. Matt 18)?

A Congregation’s “To Be” List Remind the people …to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.

Remind the people …to be subject to rulers and authorities, {Attitude towards leadership in home, church, government, work} to be obedient, {Responsiveness to clear commands of God} to be ready to do whatever is good, {Co-operation in activities that are constructive in the community} to slander no one, {Conversations about other people} to be peaceable and considerate, {Interpersonal skills, thoughtfulness} and to show true humility toward all men. {Conduct in dealing with other people}

Questions for CONGREGATION How do I respond to those who over me – at home? At work? In the church? How quick am I to obey? For the WORLD the opposite of IGNORANCE is KNOWLEDGE, for the CHRISTIAN, the opposite of IGNORANCE is OBEDIENCE! What “good” things am I doing at home? in my local community? in this church? How do I speak of other people? Have I ever cut down another person’s reputation? Do I seek to be “at peace” with others resolving conflicts quickly and in a godly way? Do I look down on others – at home? school? Work? Church? Community? DO I NEED TO REPENT TONIGHT?
